Burj Al Arab

The Burj Arab - the worlds only 7 star hotel.

It is built less than 100m off the mainland and is only accessible by the bridge which is on the left of the image. The bridge is guarded by hotel security and only guests can access the hotel. I politely asked if I could pass beyond the security boom gate but no such luck. So I headed over the nearby luxury hotel on the mainland, walked through the hotel and onto its private beach and then quietly walked over to the Burj Al Arab’s private beach on the mainland for this photo.

Originally there would have been a more substantial water break between the mainland and the Burj Al Arab. But mother nature is filling the area with sand and so the Hotel is having to dredge out the sand to maintain the water break from the mainland. You can see the dredger working in the water at the bottom of this photo. It works at night when no-one can see it and so it does not disturb the beach goers during the day.

The circular object at the top of the building is the helicopter landing pad. You can arrange a transfer from the Airport direct to the Hotel via helicopter for $A2000 one way.

The Hotel is designed to resemble a billowing sail.
